Tigers and Indians, Round 2
By Blake VandeBunte • Sep 20th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Gary SheffieldMake sure you watch the Tigers play the Indians tonight. Pay especially close attention to pitch location. Last night’s game featured a pretty sweet bench clearing brawl. The Tigers didn’t retaliate by throwing at a Cleveland batter so we could be in store for that tonight. It might happen.
Starting for the Tigers tonight is Justin Verlander. Verlander is 10-16 this season and it might mean a little something if he can go out and win his last two starts. Verlander also throws really hard and could get some decent payback on those jerks from down south.
The two teams had a war of words after the game, with players from both sides trading vocal jabs. Good times. This nugget is from Victor Martinez:
“I’m always going to protect my pitcher, just shut your mouth and keep playing the game. You don’t do anything after getting hit, then you do it at first base? Are you trying to get attention? I can’t stand that.”
Okay, Gary, got anything to say:
“His act is tired, all that macho, throwing your equipment off. All this stuff. Trust me. He doesn’t want any of this. Trust me. If he does, just let me know, man to man and I guarantee he wouldn’t want any more.”
“Anytime you do that, we’re going to have problems. I don’t care who you are, how big you are. Anytime I get hit because you’re upset about something else, we’re going to deal with it during the game, after the game, or whenever you want to deal with it.”
One thing we can all agree on is this: The Cleveland Indians are a bunch of punk-asses who are just looking for a fight. Bring it on jerks. I’ll take the Tigers any day. When it comes to winning games I’m not quite as confident, but I like their chances in a fight.
Also, I think I’ve learned a little something about myself the past 24 hours. I am 99.99% against violence. I really believe that if someone were to come up to me and shove me or punch me, I would probably do nothing. I’m just not a fighter, it seems stupid. We don’t have to get too political here, but I think war is a colossal waste of people and money. However, I am always 100% in favor of baseball brawls. Always a good time.
Tonight’s game is scheduled to start at 7:05 in Cleveland. I’ll be out for a while, but my Tivo will make sure I miss nothing. Fight! Fight! Fight!
