Roster Moves

By Blake VandeBunte • Jun 6th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Brent Clevlen, Denny Bautista, Michael Hollimon

The Tigers made a series on roster moves before tonight’s game with the Indians.  Heading to the DL are Clete Thomas and Ramon Santiago while Aquilino was placed on the bereavement list.  Coming up to the big club are Denny Baustista (to replace Lopez), Brent Clevlen (to replace Thomas) and Michael Hollimon (to replace Santiago).

We all know about Bautista, especially after my winter and spring training love affair with his power arm had me posting about him on a daily basis.  Clevlen and Hollimon are a bit more intriguing.

Clevlen had a cup of tea with the Tigers each of the past two years, with his 2006 being the more satisfying of the two cups.  Since he has a history with the Tigers it was interesting that he was called up only after Matt Joyce and Clete Thomas got a shot.  At any rate, he’s with the Tigers now and has be destroying AAA pitching this season.  He’s hitting .324/.417/.620 with 13 HR in 58 games.  If Clevlen can add some offense to his solid defensive game he could stick in the bigs at some point.

Hollimon turns 26 next week and this is the first time he’s been to the big leagues.  So far this season at Toledo Hollimon is hitting .250/.325/.538 with 12 HR in 44 games.  He has played the bulk of his games this season at 2B but started his career at SS and could appear there with the Tigers.
