Covering the ups and downs of the Detroit Tigers.

Casey Fossum

By Blake VandeBunte • Jun 4th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Casey Fossum

Casey Fossum was called up from Toledo to help strengthen the Detroit Tigers bullpen.  Fossum was called up for Francisco Cruceta who just couldn’t get the job done.  Fossum has done very little to make that decision look good.

Trailing the Oakland A’s 4-2 this afternoon in the seventh inning, Fossum was called into the game.  He promptly surrendered four hits and four runs.  That means that Fossum has given up 5 earned runs in 1/3 of an inning.  That also means that Fossum now sports a comically awful ERA of 135.00.  I don’t know that I’ve ever seen an ERA that high.  Unreal.

The Tigers haven’t lost yet today but they are down 10-2 heading into the 9th inning.  For the simplicities sake, let’s assume they lose this ball game.  That will drop them to 24-35, eleven games below .500 and equals a sweep at the hands of the Athletics.  This will mark the first time this season the Tigers have dropped that far below the break even point.

Just in case you are not yet completely depressed, I’ll leave you with this little nugget:

Tigers 2008 Payroll: $137 million

Athletics 2008 Payroll: $47 million.

Good times.

  1. Good times indeed. At least I can watch the Red Wings tonight and know the Tigers won’t be losing for at least 48 hours
