Cruceta a Goner

By Blake VandeBunte • Jun 3rd, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Casey Fossum, Francisco Cruceta

Apparently the Tigers have had enough of Francisco Cruceta blowing games.  The Tigers designated Cruceta for assignment today and called up Casey Fossum from Toledo.  Cruceta has to clear waivers before he can join Toledo.  If another team claims him they will get his rights and his contract.  Hopefully he’ll clear and can get himself straight down in Toledo.

Fossum is a veteran big league pitcher.  Fossum’s main pitch is a curveball. He throws a few different curveball and works mostly with his off speed stuff.  Fossum is a lefty and will probably work exclusively out of the Tigers bullpen.  Fossum had some pretty awful seasons as a starter with both Arizona and Tampa Bay.  This season in Toledo Fossum has appeared in 11 games, four of them were starts.  He leaves a 1.96 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP in Toledo.
