Covering the ups and downs of the Detroit Tigers.

Clete is Back

By Blake VandeBunte • May 29th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Clete Thomas, Jeff Larish, Matt Joyce

Clete Thomas is back with the Detroit Tigers.  The club sent Matt Joyce back down to AAA.  Joyce had his moments with the Tigers.  He clubbed some home runs and made at least a few very nice diving catches in the outfield.  I’m sure we’ll see him back up with the club at some point.  However, after the Tigers game on May 22, Joyce was hitting a robust .278.  He is now hitting .208 and is one for his last seventeen with seven K’s.  Probably time for a change of pace.

Thomas hit .295 with the Tigers before getting sent back down to Toledo.  Thomas doesn’t have has much pop as Joyce, but hopefully he’ll continue to hit around .280 or so.  After his hot start in Detroit Thomas hit .250 with Toledo.  The Tigers were able to sacrifice Joyce’s pop for Thomas in part because of Jeff Larish being on the Tigers roster as well.  Larish has more power than Joyce and Thomas.

I don’t think any of these players will single-handedly bring the Tigers back to .500 but it’s fun to watch them play when the rest of the team is in the tank.
