Tigers Lose Again

By Blake VandeBunte • Apr 2nd, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Edgar Renteria, Kansas City Royals, Kenny Rogers, Placido Polanco, Yorman Bazardo, Zach Miner

The Tigers got completely owned by Brian Bannister and the Royals again today, losing 4-0. Bannister allowed 3 hits over 7 innings and their bullpen allowed nothing. The Two teams will wrap up their 3 game series tomorrow at 1pm at Comerica Park. More to come later this evening.

**Addition**

I was able to watch the first 6 or so innings today.  Rogers looked really good for most of his outing.  Like Verlander he ran out of gas around the 5th or 6th inning.  Rogers was his usual cat-like self off the mound.  He made a number of smooth moves on ground balls, he was mobile and had great command today, that was very encouraging.

However, as was the problem on Monday, the Tigers bats just couldn’t come through.  Unlike Monday, they never really had any scoring chances.  Edgar Renteria collected all three Tiger hits which means they never really had any scoring opportunities.  Placido Polanco went 0-4 and is now 0-10 for the season.

Zach Miner came on for the 7th and 8th innings today and was pretty terrific in the 7th and the exact opposite of terrific in the 8th.  In his two innings he gave up 3 hits, a walk, and 2 earned runs while striking out three batters.  Yorman Bazardo made his first appearance of 2008 and walked a batter and struck out a man in the 9th inning.  All things being equal, 4 runs allowed should be terrific this season for our pitching staff and our offense.  The pitching has been very solid in the two game thus far, the offense just needs to catch up.

Jeremy Bonderman was sick today but is still slated to start tomorrow afternoon.  Zack Greinke, coming off a very good 2007 season, will get the start for the Royals.  In the past, Greinke has been roughed up by Tiger hitters, let’s hope that picks up again tomorrow.
