Down on the Farm Earning Stripes: Casey Crosby
By JAYRC • Jul 18th, 2009 • Category: 2009 Season, ProspectsRecovering from left elbow reconstruction Tommy John surgery that kept him sidelined much of 2008, Casey Crosby is quickly making up for lost time. Drafted in the fifth round of 2007 the 6′5″ south paw was looked at to fill a long standing void as a lefty starter for the Tigers. At just twenty years old Crosby is getting his first full season under his belt in Low A West Michigan this year.
Crosby has logged 73 1/3 innings this season with no ill effects from the surgery. Given his age and injury, his pitch count has been limited. Despite all of the variables though his first full season has gone great. He has posted a 7-2 record with an ERA of just 3.07. Opposing batters are also hitting just .217 against him. Crosby has struck out 84 and walked just 39 this season.
His performance thus far has earned Crosby the MID Pitcher of the Week Award on 06/29/2009. Crosby was also named the fourth-best prospect in the Tigers organization following last season by Baseball America.
Crosby is indeed still a couple of years away from being considered for the big league club. At this point in his young career, it is clear that we have only seen a fraction of what is possible from Crosby. However, if this dominance continues the road to the show might not be as far as we think. Keep an eye on Casey Crosby as he continues to earn his stripes down on the farm.

Well done!
I was wondering when you would do a piece on him. Nice to see that the kid is having such a good year after a injury I’m sure he’d like to forget.
Do you think he will get promoted to Lakeland or Erie this season?
Keep it up Jay
Excellent article. I have heard a little about him, but no one til down has updated us. Well done jay.
