Perry up, Zumaya to the DL…. AGAIN

By JAYRC • Jul 18th, 2009 • Category: 2009 Season, Joel Zumaya, Ryan Perry
Joel Zumaya was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, after feeling a “slight little pop” in his shoulder after walking Nick Swisher, the Tigers official site reports. Zumaya pitched one inning on Friday, giving up five hits and three runs while getting the loss. Zumaya heads to the disabled list with an unimpressive line of 3-3 with a 4.94ERA and a Willis like WHIP of 1.81. Blake further brakes down zoom zooms pitching woes in his article.
Called up to replace Zumaya is the young prospect Ryan Perry. Perry has quietly ironed out some command issues in Toledo over 13 2/3 innings, walking just four. Perry leaves Toledo posting an encouraging 1-0 record, three saves and a 2.63ERA. During that span opponents hit .245 against Perry, he also struck out 12.

  1. Jay, I am a fan of Perry. I was wondering what you and Blake think about him coming up and down like a yo-yo. They have identified some control problems. Do you think it would be better to keep him in Toledo until these problem are corrected. Do you think this consistent up and down is screwing with the process or do you think at this time he is the best we have to replace Zumaya.
