ODDS & ENDS

July 14th, 2009 Posted in 2009 Season, Armando Galarraga, Brandon Inge, Carlos Guillen, Detroit Tigers Blogs

Perhaps after last nights doughnut by Brandon Inge at the Home Run Derby he was thinking that Armando Galarraga would have been the better call to lay them in there to him. Bullpen catcher Scott Pickens was his pick and Pickens did his best Verlander impression. Again, Galarraga would have been the wiser move. After all Armando has served up 17 in just 99 innings so far this year. As for that goose egg that Brandon layed, it was the first zero since Jason Bayin 2005 at Comerica Park. Hey, at least you are in good company Inge.

Carlos Guillen began his rehab last night and lead off for the Lakeland Flying Tigers. He finished 0-3 and struck out once. Lakeland has an off day today.

Tonight at 8:05 the All-Star game begins with Lincecum and Halladay getting the starting nods. It will be nice to have four Tigers representing in the mid season classic. I am curious to see if at all Verlander will be able to pitch given his start on Sunday. It should be a great game as always.

Funny stuff Jay. At least Inge showed up for the event. its sad that most of the player elect not to participate in the HomeRun derby anymore.

My brother and I likened the donut to a no-hitter. Neither of us talked about it and we contest that Inge was only one HR from the second round when people ask how he performed, lol. But seriously, I was watching it and the whole time I was thinking, “Don’t pull a Damion Easley.”
