RYAN PERRY SENT BACK TO TOLEDO
By JAYRC • Jun 21st, 2009 • Category: 2009 Season, Casey Fien, Clay Rapada, Cody Satterwhite, Freddy Dolsi, Fu-Te Ni, Ryan PerryJason Beck from MLB.com has just reported that reliever RYAN PERRY has been sent down to AAA Toledo to iron out some issues with his command. This season Perry is 0-1 with a 4.28 ERA, he has allowed 24 hits over 27 1/3 innings with 21 walks and 25 strikeouts. I am actually quite pleased with the move as you could see velocity, command and his confidence slipping away. I also have no doubts that he will be back soon with a vengeance.
Although a call-up has yet to be made several names have been thrown around. Listed below are a few names and there statistics thus far.
RHP FREDDY DOLSI 2-2 4.35ERA 19 strikeouts in 31 innings
RHP CASEY FIEN 2-1 4.94ERA 31 strikeouts in 31 innings
Toledo does have two solid lefties, as both right handed options in Toledo are not very appealing to me.
LHP FU-TE NI 2-0 2.79ERA 28 strikeouts in 29 innings
LHP CLAY RAPADA 1-1 1.99ERA 21 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings
While it would be risky to call up another member of the 2008 draft class, you have to wonder if CODY SATTERWHITE is on their radar. As i mentioned yesterday he has been holding down the closer role well in AA Erie and could provide a similar Perry type role. While he is 2-4 with a 2.83ERA in 28 2/3 innings he also has managed to strike out 33 batters. He also has a 1.84ERA his last 10 games (14 2/3 innings).

That’s a good question on Satterwhite. I think they have a couple of options that might rank above him, but he should probably be in the mix of names mentioned.
According to Kurt at Mack Ave Tigers
Freddy Dolsi has just got the call
I’m not sure if I like the move, as we currently only have Seay as a quality lefty. I think both Ni and Rapada were more deserving but hey, I guess they wanted an experienced right hander.
Best of luck Freddy
Perhaps Nate will catch some “Tired Arm” so we can finnally witness Fu-Te Ni
I am not sure I like the call on Dolsi either. Wonder whats up with Perry. he started really good. You had mentioned before that lately, he is always adjusting his contact lens. when he pitched in Lakeland, didnt he wear glasses. maybe the contacts are a bother and he needs to go back to regular glasses. he is having a difficult time finding the strike zone. You also said at the start of the season you thought he needed more time in the minors. Something is bothering the kid. Hope they find it soon. He has a rocket for an arm and could be very useful in the future.
As for Nate, again last night, he comes in for one batter, gives up and hit and is taken out. Do you think Leyland has finally had it. Either get the batter out or you are out.
Keep up the good work jay.
Yeah for awhile there his glassses were even tinted yellow. I’m sure you remember that as we would comment Ryan are u pitching or going to the gun range!
Either way it worked for Rick Vaughn right!
I’m sure he will be back very soon.
As for your Nate comment
It’s funny Imus. You were in Tampa when we me him, he’s a hell of a nice guy. I will never forget the good that he did (2006 playoff gem vs NY) but it’s past his time. Every bullpen needs two effective lefties not one solid (seay) and one riding out his contract. The funny thing is, as much as his performance angers me it really wouldnt suprise me if he went to a NL team and got it together. You are right tho he must go
