Game 4 Preview

By Blake VandeBunte • Apr 9th, 2009 • Category: 2009 Season, Rick Porcello, Toronto Blue Jays
  • Date: April 9
  • Time: 12:37pm
  • Teams: Detroit Tigers at Toronto Blue Jays
  • Park: Rogers Centre
  • Weather: 46 degrees and sunny.  This one will likely be played in the dome.
  • Starting Pitchers: Rick Porcello (0-0, 0.00)  Ricky Romero (0-0, 0.00)
  • Records: Detroit (1-2)  Toronto (2-1)
  • Last 10 Games: (Detroit 1-2)  Toronto (2-1)
  • My Two Cents: We will see two pitchers make their big league debuts today in Toronto.  Ricky Romero was a first round pick a few years back by the Jays and has a 16-22 record with an ERA of 4.33 in his four years in the minor leagues.  This may be a big deal for Jays fans, but I doubt it.  Starting for the Tigers is Rick Porcello who has been described as the best high school pitcher since Josh Beckett.  In an effort to win now, the Tigers decided to include Porcello in the rotation this season.  Last season, Porcello was limited to 75 pitches per start as he pitched in Lakeland.  I haven’t heard anything about a pitch count for Porcello but I would be surprised if he ever topped the 100 pitch count.  This is more exciting that opening day, in my opinion.
