The Spot Starters

Covering the ups and downs of the Detroit Tigers.

How About Some Links?

Today is the start of Spring Training games.  I was speaking with Ian of Bless You Boys and we were lamenting that we were a lot more excited for Spring Training to start last year than we are this year.  I guess that’s what comes with lowered expectations.  I will be in class during the game today and won’t be able to keep tabs on Justin Verlander’s performance.  Last year I was all in from the beginning, maybe my more laid back approach to the start of the season will result in some more wins in 2009.  Yes, I am that superstitious.

Here are some links you should check out if you have the time:

  • Sean of Trumbull and Michigan will be at Spring Training.  He promises some good pictures along with some first hand observations.  Probably worth checking out.
  • Over at Tiger Tales, Lee points out that there really are not many position battles in Spring Training for the Tigers.  There are a few minor details to figure out, but most of the starters are pretty set in their spots.
  • Feeling a bit rusty on your Tigers knowledge after the long winter?  Do not fret, Mike McClary is working up profiles on all of the current players.  Check it out over at the Daily Fungo.
  • Kurt of Mack Avenue Tigers is back and has the skinny on the World Baseball Classic.
  • Ian of Bless You Boys is going corporate.  I kid, I kid.
  • Rogo does the sort of thing I wish I had the time for right now and breaks down some fun numbers about the Tigers.  A good read at DesigNate Robertson.
  • John Lowe of the Free Press notes that Nate Robertson is in shape and is ready to compete for that final spot in the rotation.
  • The Detroit News reports something new and different:  Gary Sheffield is hurt!
  • Rob Neyer weighs on why Pudge Rodriguez cannot find a team to sign him.  Here’s a taste:

I’m surprised Rodriguez doesn’t have a job yet. But he now has been pretty awful for two seasons running, and eventually they will stop giving him a uniform.
