Tigers Ink Adam Everett
By Blake VandeBunte • Dec 8th, 2008 • Category: Adam EverettThe Tigers have already filled two of their biggest holes this offseason and they did it all in one day. Very early this morning the Tigers completed a trade for catcher Gerald Laird and early this evening they signed SS Adam Everett.
Believe it or not, the Tigers and Everett agreed to a one year deal worth just $1M. In everything I read before the Tigers signed Everett, I was seeing monetary figures between $2-$3M for a one year deal. I’m hoping this means that Adam Everett just really wanted to play for the Detroit Tigers.
I’ve already made a lot on this page about how Everett is an awful hitter but an absolutely outstanding defensive player. Here’s the priliminary look at our 2009 Detroit Tigers:
- C: Gerald Laird
- 1B: Miguel Cabrera
- 2B: Placido Polanco
- SS: Adam Everett
- 3B: Brandon Inge
- LF: Carlos Guillen
- CF: Curtis Granderson
- RF: Magglio Ordonez
- DH: Thames/Sheffield
Not a bad group and certainly a much improved group on the defensive side of things. I had/have reservations about the Laird deal but this Everett signing is big time “thumbs up”. This is a very low risk signing for the Tigers and they didn’t have to give up any prospects.

Good deal. The Tigers really need good defense. I love this signing.
