The Remains of Jason Grilli

By Blake VandeBunte • Oct 26th, 2008 • Category: Jason Grilli, Zach Simons

When the Tigers were finally able to find a taker for the human gas can (Jason Grilli) they got a Minor League pitcher from the Rockies in return. Zach Simons, fresh off an appearance in the Arizona Fall League, was great in Lakeland in 2008.

Tigers Sweep Colorado

By Blake VandeBunte • Jun 29th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Dane Sardinha, Freddy Dolsi, Jason Grilli, Kenny Rogers, Marcus Thames

Someone new seems to step up for the Tigers on an almost daily basis lately.  Today that man was Dane Sardinha (told ya).  The Tigers completed their latest round of domination by beating the Colorado Rockies 4-3 and wrapping up their sweep.
Kenny Rogers started for the Tigers and he didn’t have his “A” game.  However, [...]

FIVE HUNDRED!

By Blake VandeBunte • Jun 28th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Jason Grilli, Justin Verlander, Magglio Ordonez, Ryan Raburn, Todd Jones

Heading into the bottom of the ninth tonight, it seemed like .500 just wasn’t meant to be for the Tigers this season. The Tigers got to within a game of .500 after their sweep of the Yankees earlier this year and then went in the tank. Tonight the Tigers had a chance to [...]

Jason Grilli is Back

By Blake VandeBunte • Jun 27th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Jason Grilli

Tonight the Tigers will start a three game series with the Colorado Rockies.  The Rockies are not living up to last years World Series appearance.  They are currently 32-47.  They have suffered more than their fair share of injuries and their young pitchers are not yet living up to their potential.
One of those young pitchers [...]

No More Grilli

By Blake VandeBunte • Apr 30th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Jason Grilli, Zach Simons

Jason Grilli was traded by the Tigers today.  This means that when Francisco Cruceta gets the call to the big leagues (tomorrow), Clay Rapada and Zach Miner will stick with the team.  Grilli was sent to the Colorado Rockies for pitcher Zach Simons.  Grilli will go down in Tigers history as a gas can, fair [...]

Eureka!!

By Blake VandeBunte • Apr 16th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Armando Galarraga, Edgar Renteria, Ivan Rodriguez, Jason Grilli, Miguel Cabrera

I think it’s probably safe to say that the TIgers have fond their offense.  They’ve got it going and it looks like they may be on a bit of a streak.  Armando Galarraga was terrific and almost every batter contributed in some way.  The Tigers dominated in every facet of the game tonight in crushing [...]

I’m At A Loss

By Blake VandeBunte • Apr 13th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Dontrelle Willis, Ivan Rodriguez, Jason Grilli, Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, Placido Polanco

So here we are, 2-10.  The Tigers are 8 games under .500 was in 2005.  Last year the worse off they were was one game under and in 2006 they didn’t spend a single second under the break even point.  If you’ve spent any time this season watching the Tigers you’ve seen some sick stuff.  [...]

Two out of Three, Son!

By Blake VandeBunte • Apr 11th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Aquilino Lopez, Clete Thomas, Dontrelle Willis, Jason Grilli, Magglio Ordonez, Miguel Cabrera, Todd Jones

The Tigers are now officially on a mini-roll.  The Tigers took on the White Sox in Chicago after the White Sox ran through the Tigers for three straight last weekend.  The Tigers came out on top tonight, 5-2 and are now a healthy 2-8 on the season.  A strong 2-8.  The Tigers have won two [...]

Tigers-Astros

By Blake VandeBunte • Mar 25th, 2008 • Category: Carlos Guillen, Jacque Jones, Jason Grilli, Justin Verlander

Justin Verlander got the start this evening against the Houston Astros.  I’m sure the Tigers hoped they could 5 or 6 innings out of him, but it just wasn’t in the cards today.  Verlander got roughed up by the Astros stout offense to the tune of five earned runs in only three innings.  In those [...]

Bullpen Help

By Blake VandeBunte • Nov 29th, 2007 • Category: Jamie Walker, Jason Grilli, LaTroy Hawkins

There was an article in the Detroit Free Press today about how the Tigers are pursuing relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins to help strengthen their bullpen.  Relief pitchers are notoriously tough to gauge so it’s not really to assume anyone other than the tops in baseball will be solid any given year.
In 2006, Jason Grilli was [...]
