Still Waiting for Closure on a Closer

By JAYRC • Dec 18th, 2009 • Category: Bobby Seay, Brandon Lyon, Cody Satterwhite, Daniel Schlereth, Dave Dombrowski, Fernando Rodney, Jeremy Bonderman, Joel Zumaya, Ryan Perry

It’s no secret that the closer role is currently vacant in Motown. Although GM Dave Dombrowski has made it clear that “there is no fire sale going on here!”
(sigh)
It’s becoming crystal clear that our “closer” will more than likely be a committee compiled of in house relievers.
Brandon Lyon has signed a three year [...]

Around mid-season this year, JayRC and I went through the Tigers rosters and assigned them grades based on their performances up to that point.  It was a fun little exercise.  So fun in fact, that we are doing it again as the regular season comes to a close.  Here’s what we came up with:

Eddie Bonine [...]

South Paw Success In The Pen

By JAYRC • Jul 12th, 2009 • Category: 2009 Season, Bobby Seay, Fu-Te Ni

This season Bobby Seay has emerged as one of the top left handed relievers in all of baseball. Seay currently leads the American League with 19 holds. Through 27 innings of work he is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.00. His past role of situational duties has even evolved into late inning work at times. Still no matter when [...]

Hodge Podge Look at the 2008 Season

By Blake VandeBunte • Dec 1st, 2008 • Category: Armando Galarraga, Bobby Seay, Clay Rapada, Curtis Granderson, Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera

I dive into my Bill James Online subscription to find some goodies about the 2008 Tigers. My findings are often depressing but not without a small silver lining of hope. Don’t give up on the 2009 club just yet!

Oh, the Humanity!

By Blake VandeBunte • Sep 15th, 2008 • Category: Bobby Seay, Kenny Rogers, Kyle Farnsworth, Marcus Thames, Mike Hessman

If you were stupid (like me) you stayed up and watched the Tigers game last night on ESPN.  I hung in there.  I hung in there and I got burned for my loyalty and optimism.  The Tigers dug themselves 7-0 deficit.  Most people would cut and run, not me, I hung in there.  The Tiger fought [...]

Tigers Lucky to Keep it Close in Loss

By Blake VandeBunte • Jul 2nd, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Bobby Seay, Carlos Guillen, Marcus Thames, Nate Robertson, Zach Miner

The Tigers lost 6-4 on Tuesday night to the Twins.  Detroit pitching allowed 14 hits and gave up six walks.  They could have easily given up 10 runs and been blown out of the water but they kept it close.  Kudos to them for that.
That was pretty much the silver lining though in the loss.  [...]

Tigers Sweep the Dodgers

By Blake VandeBunte • Jun 15th, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Bobby Seay, Brent Clevlen, Carlos Guillen, Nate Robertson, Todd Jones

The Tigers came through and swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in winning 5-4.  The sweep is the second consecutive sweep for the Tigers who swept the Chicago White Sox to start the series.  Good times in Detroit.
I was at the game today and the stadium was just packed.  It started to drizzle in the fourth [...]

So This is What You Meant…

By Blake VandeBunte • Jun 3rd, 2008 • Category: 2008 season, Bobby Seay, Francisco Cruceta, Jeff Larish, Kenny Rogers, Miguel Cabrera

Remember at the beginning of the season when we had all kinds of problems with the Tigers so we really didn’t focus much on the bullpen?  Also, at the time, the pen was actually pretty decent.  The losses of Zumaya and Rodney weren’t killing us because we didn’t have many games to blow.  Well, the [...]
